25 years. That’s how long Deneka’s parents lovingly called this stunning 6-acre property in Darling Downs home. As they prepare to close this chapter and downsize, they wanted to celebrate their time here – and what better way to honour those memories than with an extended family photoshoot?
This session was truly special, not just because of the breathtaking property (think rolling paddocks, golden light filtering through towering gum trees, and open spaces perfect for little legs to run wild) but because it brought three generations together to capture natural, candid moments they’ll treasure forever.
Tucked away in Perth's scenic south-east, Darling Downs is a hidden gem. Deneka’s family home was the perfect backdrop for a relaxed, down-to-earth photoshoot. We made the most of:
Golden paddocks with rustic charm
Tree-lined open spaces, adding texture and light
The peaceful walking paths leading into the 70-acre equestrian reserve, which gave the kids plenty of room to explore while keeping things laid-back.
The property itself is a testament to 25 years of love, hard work, and family gatherings – it was a privilege to document this slice of their history.
The family did an incredible job coordinating their outfits in rich neutral tones like terracotta, beige, and cream. This choice created a cohesive look that perfectly complemented the earthy tones of Darling Downs.
Here are a few tips for families planning an extended session:
Stick to warm neutrals: Think burnt oranges, browns, soft greens, and creams. They blend beautifully with natural surroundings.
Mix textures: Light knits, cottons, and soft linens add depth without being too formal.
Comfort matters: This family embodied laid-back fun, from flowy dresses to relaxed-fit shirts – perfect for chasing after little ones.

With three generations present, we focused on moments of connection and legacy. Some of my favourite shots included:
The grandchildren laughing and playing together, their personalities shining through.
Margaret (the great-grandmother) sharing a tender moment surrounded by her family. Her warmth and presence were so special.
The candid chaos of siblings, cousins, and parents – these little in-between moments are what families will look back on with the biggest smiles.
Kayleb, who sometimes gets overstimulated, brought along a calming toy, and we allowed plenty of time for breaks and exploration. This ensured he felt comfortable while still capturing plenty of joyful moments.

Extended family sessions are about more than just photos – they’re about documenting love, laughter, and shared stories. For Deneka and her family, these images will serve as a beautiful keepsake of their years on the property and the bonds between their loved ones.
If you’ve been thinking about an extended family photoshoot (especially if you’re saying goodbye to a special home), it’s an investment in memories that will only grow more valuable with time.
