Ohh Brigadoon...
There is something about Brigadoon that feels untouched. Wide open hills, long golden grasses, and views that stretch forever. It’s the kind of place that makes you stop mid-sentence and just look.
But it also keeps you humble.
This isn’t a “pull up, walk two steps, and pose” location. This is:
gravel under your shoes
wind in your hair
uneven ground
one wrong move and you'll roll down a cliff (ok maybe not that dramatic but ya get the gist)..
And honestly? That’s why the photos hit differently.
The landscape doesn’t feel staged, it feels alive. It is wildly different every time I visit.
The hills roll softly behind you, the light spills across the grass like honey, and when the sun finally dips low, everything turns warm and glowing in that dreamy Perth-hills kind of way.
You don’t just take photos here.
You experience something.
What makes sessions like this so special isn’t perfect weather, it’s the journey.
Proof that “maybe we should reschedule” sometimes turns into “best photos ever.”
Some sessions are soft and dreamy from start to finish.
And then… there are these sessions.
The ones you’ll talk about for years.
This maternity shoot in Brigadoon began with sideways rain, wild wind, and that moment where everyone looks at each other like, “Are we actually doing this?”
For the first 20 minutes, we couldn’t even open the car doors. Rain hammered down, trees bent in the wind, and I was mentally calculating how to photograph on what can only be described as a VERY steep, slippery, mildly life-threatening gravel hill.
Romantic? Yes.
Safe? Questionable.
Worth it? Absolutely.
And then, just as quickly as the chaos rolled in… it shifted.
The rain eased.
The clouds cracked open.
The sky began to glow.
That dreamy, golden light photographers wait for all day started pouring over the hills, turning everything soft and warm. The air still carried that fresh post-rain feeling, and suddenly the entire landscape felt calm, like the evening had quietly reset itself just for them.
It felt symbolic.
A little bit wild. A little bit uncertain.
And then suddenly… clarity, warmth, light.
Exactly like the season of life they’re in.
The Toddler Who Outsmarted a Photographer
Let’s talk about the real boss of this session:
their adorable toddler boy.
This tiny human made me WORK.
Every trick I pulled out, silly noises, jumping, funny dances, fake sneezes, peek-a-boo…
He outsmarted me. Every. Single. Time.
I’d think “got him!”
Nope. Blank stare.
I’d try again.
He’d look away like, “Mmhhh, I see what you’re doing.”
But here’s the thing about toddlers right? the magic isn’t in forced smiles. It’s in the little cheeky looks, the serious faces, the tiny grins that sneak out when they forget we’re trying.
And those?
We got them. And they are pure gold.
The Outfit. The Moment.
When I say Zoe looked unreal… I mean unreal.
She wore the most STUNNING two-piece maternity outfit and genuinely looked like she’d just stepped off a maternity campaign shoot. Wind in her hair, dramatic skies behind her, the whole scene was giving high-end editorial meets wild Perth hills.
And then came the moment.
The Gender Reveal I’ll Never Forget
Zoe & Ron didn’t know the gender of their baby.
They brought two HUGE bouquets, one blue, one pink, and handed me the envelope with the result inside. My job? Open it secretly and pass Ronald the correct bunch of flowers.
No pressure. Just holding the fate of an emotional life moment in my muddy, rain-soaked hands.
We got into position.
Everyone counted down.
Ronald brought the bouquet from behind his back…
BLUE 💙
Absolute joy!
Laughter. Shock. Happy tears.
Zoe was so sure baby was a girl, but little Ron Jnr is officially getting a baby brother to love, wrestle, grow up with, and make lifelong memories beside.
It was loud, emotional, messy, and completely perfect.
The outcome
And the final images?
Gorgeous. Emotional. Real.
Little smirks from their toddler who made me earn every single one.
Zoe glowing like an absolute maternity goddess.
A family of four, almost five, standing on those hills with a brand new chapter unfolding.
These are the sessions that remind me why I do what I do.
Not perfect conditions.
Not perfect poses.
Just real families, wild weather, big feelings, and moments they’ll hold onto forever.
